A desert plant with stiff, sword-shaped leaves, pollinated by a single moth that lays its eggs in the flower it pollinates and by nothing else — neither species survives without the other. Its root is unusually high in saponins, soap molecules the plant makes for itself, which is why yucca root was used as a wash long before anyone isolated the compound responsible.
