A low creeping herb with round, scalloped leaves that grows at the wet edges of things — ditches, paddy fields, riverbanks. It spreads by runner rather than seed, which is why a single plant can cover a bank. It has a long history in Ayurvedic practice, and a more recent one in skincare, where its triterpene fraction is the part of interest.
