The power of plants

The plant

The damask rose is a hybrid that does not occur in the wild. It has been kept alive for centuries by cutting and replanting, and in the valley between the Balkan and Sredna Gora ranges it is still picked by hand before sunrise, while the flower holds the most of itself. The petals go to the still within hours. What comes off the still is two things: a very small quantity of rose otto, and the water the steam passed through — the hydrosol. The oil is what most houses sell. The water is what we build on.

Skincare benefits

What it does

Used as the base of the water phase rather than as a fragrance, it carries the plant’s own aromatic molecules at trace level and leaves skin feeling calm and comfortable. It is the reason our formulas smell of rose without a single added fragrance ingredient.

Responsible sourcing

Where it comes from

Certified organic, distilled in Bulgaria and supplied through an Australian botanical supplier. Every formula uses that organic hydrosol except the Gentle Cream Facial Cleanser, which uses a non-organic Bulgarian hydrosol.

Worth saying plainly

This is a hydrosol, not an oil. ENAYIN is not a distiller — we buy the distilled water from the growers who make it, and rose otto is present only at trace level, carried through by the hydrosol itself. In the toner and the hand cream the hydrosol is not the whole water phase; it is blended with Australian mineral water. Everywhere else the hydrosol stands alone.
